Decades of planning and visioning have resulted in a plan that now is being reviewed and debated across the city. It is one of the most contentious issues facing the city. Numerous groups have visions and plans for downtown and there are a lot of issues that come with each. This is a critical time in the continued evolution of the city’s core downtown.

Scottsdale is a city with relatively low taxes and high services, and it benefits from a tourism and retail economy that delivers robust sales tax revenues. But there are critical issues ahead that deserve attention now. It can’t be assumed that sales tax revenues will continue to increase. There are mounting infrastructure needs, concerns with an underfunded police and fire department pension system, spending proposals from downtown Scottsdale to WestWorld, back to the Giant’s stadium and more. Awareness and action now will minimize problems later.

Pillars

September 12, 2017

There are many mainstay fixtures in the fabric of Scottsdale that make it unique and attractive. From WestWorld to the Indian Bend Wash, from the McDowell Sonoran Preserve to the city’s arts and culture, from the Airpark to the McDowell Road Corridor. All of these pillars have their own needs and their continued success it vital to the city. City leaders and residents alike need to address these issues together.
